Human Resources Manager 

Human Resources Manager - Overview:

The Human Resource Manager provides a full spectrum of HR services for Samaritans Southcoast’s prospective employees and staff.  S/he is responsible for general day to day HR operations, payroll, benefits, and maintaining compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.  The Human Resources Manager effectively interacts with colleagues and staff, and maintains a strong working relationship with our payroll company.  S/he serves as a member of the leadership team at Samaritans Southcoast, and works collaboratively and independently to create a productive and supportive environment for all team members.  The Human Resources Manager incorporates best practices and evidence-based industry standards into daily operations, and exhibits confidentiality and professionalism in all activities.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities Include: 

  • Serve as first point of contact for employee-related questions for HR, payroll, and benefits.

  • Ensure staffing needs are met by leading the hiring process, including posting available positions, reviewing applicants, conducting candidate screenings, and scheduling interviews. 

  • Coordinate new employee onboarding activities, prepare offer letters, new hire paperwork, and conduct background checks.

  • Develop position descriptions as needed.

  • Process timesheets and submit payroll.

  • Maintain organization-wide Paid Time Off (PTO) records. 

  • Facilitate online payroll portal access for new employees through payroll company.

  • Supply multi-state tax documents and notifications to payroll company in a timely fashion. 

  • Conduct annual salary and wage reviews. 

  • Support supervisors with the performance management process, including annual performance reviews, employee relations, investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations, and concerns.

  • Maintain personnel files. 

  • Conduct exit interviews. 

  • Update Employee Handbook, personnel policies, and procedures as needed. 

  • Develop HR systems as needed. 

  • Participate in developing and implementing mission-oriented, strategic goals of the organization.

  • Exercise discretion in handling confidential situations and information.

  • Convey sensitive information promptly to qualified parties. 

  • Serve as “On-Call Administrator” on a regularly scheduled basis. 

  • Ability to intervene in crises. 

  • Maintain composure in high-stress situations. 

  • Be able to multitask. 

  • Embody Samaritans Southcoast’s befriending methods. 

  • Adhere to all Samaritans Southcoast’s policies and procedures and those per the agency’s accreditations, contracts, and partnerships with the International Council for Helplines, Vibrant and 988, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Massachusetts’ Department of Public Health (DPH), and Emergency Service Providers (ESPs). 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree and five years of professional experience in a social service agency, nonprofit, or similar organization.

  • High comfort level with technology, including computer and internet skills, cloud-based systems, telephony, and integrated systems management. 

  • Experience with the Google Workspace, iCarol System or similar cloud-based database, Cisco Webex and TPx Call Center or similar telephony applications, and Zoom required.

  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, think critically, maintain composure, and display good judgment in a fast-paced, ever-evolving remote work environment. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior staff colleagues and work independently in a virtual workplace. 

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required. 

  • Desire to help others, display compassion, and maintain confidentiality required. 

Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions: 

  • Remote work with some in-person interaction with staff and colleagues. 

  • Access to active, high-speed internet service is required. 

  • Ability to work remotely in a secure, private space where confidentiality can be maintained. 

  • Some flexibility in working hours, including some evenings and weekends. 

  • Must complete 40 hours of Samaritans Southcoast training. 

  • Attend outside training and conferences, refresher training, and staff meetings regularly. 

  • A background check is required as part of the application process. 

  • CORI check is required upon offer of position.

  • Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week

  • Salary: $61,000 

  • Benefits: Health insurance stipend

  • Paid Time Off (PTO): 120 hours (15 eight-hour days), accrued at a rate of 10 hours for every month worked during year one, non-rollover annually.
