"This month, Samaritans Southcoast, which serves Southeastern Massachusetts trying to prevent suicides, has expanded its 988 services to include text and chat. For many — especially young people — texting feels safer than speaking, the agency says. The need, the Samaritans say, is urgent as for every life lost to suicide, an estimated 250 people are struggling with thoughts of suicide. The Samaritans, through 988, provide a compassionate human being on the other end of the line who is ready to listen. Donations are accepted to ensure that no one who reaches out is ever met with silence."
